Typical form but unusual TINY SIZE sander, likely for a traveling desk set or a lady's desk. Nicely turned wood with star form pounce hole. These sanders were used to hold absorbent sand or ground pumice which was sprinkled onto the paper over the wet ink to help it dry. This beauty is a diminutive 2” tall and 2” in diameter. Possibly yew wood, with an amazing old patina. It has a recessed top to facilitate pouring the loose sand back inside. What a beautiful addition to any early desk set, library or writing collection . I also have listed the early PA redware inkwell shown in the last photo.....They make a great desk set....just add a couple feather quills! Be sure to take a look at my other auction items to see some great early items . Please e-mail any questions. , I guarantee my items to be as described. Buyer pays actual shipping costs.
