This auction is for an stunning estate find. Found on the water front area of Beaufort, NC inlet. It is a true authentic antique piece. A one of a kind piece from approx. the mid 19th century. It is mad of two pieces & serves two purposes. One part is a beautiful coconut shell which has been expertly hand carved with pinwheel like decoration and other geometric shapes of all kinds. That is mounted with old silverplate brass mounts. A thick rim around the cut edge of the coconut and then on the other end of the coconut it has a candlestick portion attached with an old hand made nut. The candle stick end serves for two purposes. When the cut end of the coconut is down it acts as intended as a candlestick and when the candlestick end is down it serves as a fantastic chalice, goblet, cup with silver edge. There are some examples carved by sailors as cups etc but not one like this with a dual purpose. Interesting to think it came most likely from a coastal north carolina sailor while on travels and to make time pass while at sea. He carved this wonderful item for use on the ship as a cup or candlestick. Very very cool and unique. Possibly a military sailor or explorer. It measures approx 7.5" tall by 3.5" in diameter. It is such an amazing piece do not miss it. Would make a great gift for dad. It is very old and so it has old wear and read more
