The Penguin New Writing Edited by John Lehmann Penguin Book No. 16 January-March London Penguin Books, 1943 Approx Size: 4.5 x 7.25 inches (11 x 18.5 cms) Paperback. 204 [+ 4] printed pages Overall condition is generally Good The title cover is slightly creased and the previous owner has signed his name neatly on the first page. There is also some minor foxing here due to age. The spine shows signs of wear but the title and series number on the spine are still fairly clear but with some loss as one would expect. The volume includes articles and poems especially written for this issue by Laurie Lee, Denis Glover, Joseph Gurnard, Stephen Spender, William Plomer and Jack Marlowe as well as articles published for the first time in Great Britain by John Hillier, Antony Verney, Louis Mac Neice, and others. Also included are photogravure illustrations by Graham Sutherland, Leonard Rosoman, Keith Vaughan, Edward Burra and Leslie Hurry The rear cover has an advert for Kolynos Dental Cream, the front inside cover has an advert for Mars Bars while the rear inside cover has an advert for Howards' Aspirin.
