You are bidding on an excellent piece of Meiji era Japanese art. The vases are done in red and gold glossy paint. The entire surface is covered in designs of trees, birds, and gold trims. The both sides of the vases depict an elderly man, possibly Dharuma or some other deity. The upper rim is decorated with lotus design flowers and the bottom has several medalions. The style and markings on the piece date it to the Meiji period (1868 - 1912) and the bottom is signed "Dai Nippon Kutani ? Zan ? Sei" "Great Japan Kutani (artist name) Made". The one vase is in excellent condition for its age with no chips or cracks. The other vase has been repaired but is still in great shape for its age and t is a small fleabite on the rim and I have included a picture of w the vase was repaired at the top. T is crazing on the top of the vases and the bottoms have crazing which you can see from the pictures but the interior picture shows the first vase is perfectly intact. The vases have been kept on stands so the bottoms show very little wear for its age. The vases stand 15" high and 6" across the mouth. If you have any questions about the item please contact me.
