2 TALL ANTIQUE "ROYAL DUX BOHEMIA" STATUES FIGURINES FIGURES Intricate Detailing, Magnificent Condition, Circa1800s? We are excited to be able to offer you this spectacular pair of tall handpainted porcelain figurines hallmarked "Royal Dux Bohemia" that are in wonderful condition. The subject matter is romantic as well as whimsical and depicts an artist and his model. The female is very proud of herself with her floppy hat and drawstring purse, and the artist lovingly admires her as he etches out her image on his tablet. One of my favorite part of these figurines are that the tablet actually has his sketch of her carved into it. Both figures are perched on an exquisite grassy green knoll that has a pink flowered base that is gilded in gold. Lovely soft coloration, delicate and sensitive modeling and handpainted detailing all combine to make these two really breathtaking. Even the juxtaposition of glazed versus unglazed areas appear to have been the result of thoughtful study. This spectacular pair of antiques are 14" tall, the bases are 4 1/2" square, and they weigh almost 7 pounds. Both statues have the "Royal Dux Bohemia" with an "E" triangle on the bottom, and the lady is stamped 429 while the man is stamped 428. I am suggesting that these are circa 1800s based on my research and what I've seen on eBay and on antique sites (Note: Someone just wrote in and said that the E stamp on them means early 1900s. Thanks for your help). They don't look like any of the later Dux figurines that are smooth and have more contemporary colorations and looks. These two are highly texturized with lots of sharp, prickly edges and rough surfaces--especially the lady's hat and hair, the man's wooly collar and sleeves, and both of the bases. They have the same look and feel of eBay items number 160146610157 which is 1800s. They belong to a lady in my town who has a long established North Carolina family, and they belonged to her grandmother, who was an avid collector of fine antique treasures. If anyone out t recognizes these pieces, I'd love to receive information from you, which I will add to my description. I would rate these two old fine porcelain Royal Dux pieces to be in excellent condition. They make a magnificent display. The colors are very vivid and t are no chips, no cracks, no crazing, no stains, no repairs, no excessive dust, no defects and no problems except noted : half the paintbrush, third finger, fourth finger and part of the man's hand are broken off (pictured--this is hard to see since it's the back side of the hand that's broken, and I believe it can be satisfactorily repaired by a professional); half of two flower petals on the man's base have been chipped off (pictured); a pinpoint size knick on the man's hat (upper left hand corner of closeup picture--hard to see in real life); two tiny specks on the man's left cheek; I see no chips at all on the lady but about five tiny white specks smaller than a pinpoint; lighter paint on 3-4 corners of the lady's skirt from dusting over the decades, centuries, etc.--she is very close to perfect, if not perfect. I hope between the pictures and the description that you can grasp how old, exquisite and fine these wonderful figurines are. Again, if anyone has history that they can help me with, I'd appreciate receiving a note from you. If t is a particular area that you need a closeup of, send me your email address. I am glad to help you in any way that I can. Shipping is going to seem high on these, because we will have to pack them as if they were the Crown Jewels Of England. They will be softly wrapped, heavily cushioned and then double-boxed into a huge container. No one, least of all me, wants anything to happen to these treasures on their way to their new home, so we can't skrimp on shipping materials and box size. Please note that we are out of town August 30-September 4. Payment for this item will need to be received by Wednesday, August 29, at noon for it to be shipped before we leave town on Thursday. ...
