Additional Note on Shipping Costs: EBay has announced that they will impose a final value fee on shipping charges. This fee plus the current PayPal fees on shipping charges are taken directly out of my account and will require me to charge shipping rates about 14% higher than my actual costs. I have always believed shipping charges should reflect actual costs that I incur and should not me a profit source. EBay management seems to disagree. EBay's official justification of this additional hidden charge is that it will put pressure on sellers to reduce shipping charges. EBay management seems to think that by imposing a surcharge on shipping, sellers will charge less. This makes no sense to me (I already operate on about a 10% net profit margin which pays my labor to clean, repair, photograph and list merchandise) and it should not make sense to you either. This additional charge will only drive up your shipping costs at a time when all major shippers have already increased their charges. It will pad eBay's bottom line profit which will make stock share holders happy and will enable employees and management to receive pay increases. It may even reduce the merchandise volume handled by eBay, but if profit is increased. they are likely to keep the fee or even increase it. Those of you who have studied economics will follow the logic. However, what is not ethical in my opinion is for them to charge a fee where no value is added. Fees for listing, selling, and other infrastructure needs that support the safe marketing, sale and purchase of merchandise are warranted.
