2006 Benjamin Franklin "Founding Father" Proof Silver Dollar Benjamin Franklin "Founding Father" Proof Silver Dollar" (BN3) The second silver dollar in the Benjamin Franklin program,7 " Founding Father " features a familiar image of Franklin in his later years. The image is based on a bust originally executed by French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon in 1778. The reverse of this coin features a replica of a 1776 Continental Currency dollar , in honor of Franklin's contributions to the development of our Nation's coinage and currency. The proof coin has a brilliant mirror-like finish. The term "proof" refers to a specialized minting process, which begins by manually feeding burnished coin planchets into presses fitted with specially polished dies. Each coin is packaged in a presentation case and is accompanied by its own official Certificate of Authenticity signed by the Acting Director of the United States Mint.
