Made from 22kt gold (.9167 fine), the American Gold Eagle has become a mainstay in the precious metals trade. The design of the American Gold Eagle is a carefully remodeled version of the Saint-Gaudens double eagle design first struck in 1907. It is arguably one of the most beautiful designs ever struck into a coin. The reverse design, by mint engraver Miley Busiek, shows an Eagle returning to a nest to feed its young.
