Up for auction is a very rare and one of only a few known that made it out of the U.S. Mint. This error is the result of trapped die fragments which pressed into the coin during the mint process. These coins are handled with absolute care and are usually noticed when this occurs and not released to the public or collectors.This one made it out alive and well with these marks on it. I had this coin looked at by a few people who concurred that this is not the result of mishandling or other evidence would be present such as scratches or other markings.A picture of the obverse is posted which is the only side with this error.
