KEENELAND 2008 JoeB. Hall Maker's Mark Bottle #4719 #The Keeneland Association celebrates two milestones in its partnership with Maker's Mark Distillery, in 2008, the Maker's Mark Mile was elevated to a Grade I stakes race as a result of attracting some of the world's fastest thoroughbreds to run at the historic track's turf course. This year also marks the completion of a three-bottle series that, with matching donations from the Markey Cancer Foundation, led the charge to raise $3 million for practical, clinical cancer research that will help fight this dreaded disease. Joe B. Hall, the legendary coach of the UK Wildcats from 1972-1985, was one of only three men to both play on a NCAA championship team (1949 - UK) and then return to coach them in a NCAA championship game (1978). That was UK's fifth NCAA Div. I Men's Basketball championship. In addition, he coached the team to a NCAA Championship runner-up game (1975) and a Final Four appearance (1984). He was named National Coach of the Year in 1978 and the Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year on four different occasions. Through it all, his beloved wife Kathryn remained at his side providing comfort and support in all of his endeavors.
