1oz silver panda 2012 The Chinese Silver Panda was first produced in 1983. The silver coins followed the issuance of the popular Gold Panda in the previous year. Similar to the gold coins, the Silver Panda prominently features images of Pandas on the reverse of the coins. With only a few exceptions, the reverse design has been changed each year, which is fairly uncommon for silver bullion coins. The obverse of the coin features an image of the Temple of Heaven.The Silver Panda coins issued during the early 1980's were not of the standardized weights of later issues. They also contained different silver purity than later issues of the series. Some years were minted in 90% silver and 92.5% silver was used for 1984. These early coins did not contain one ounce of silver. Some of the earlier years had low mintages and are scarce.Newly issued Silver Pandas are minted in .999 fine silver and have specified weights in silver. The coins have been offered in 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, 1 oz, 5 oz, 12 oz, and 1 kilogram sizes. Each size carries a different face value of 3, 5, 10, 50, 100, and 300 Yuan, respectively.Over the years different types and varieties of the Silver Panda have been offered.
