The 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Proof Clad Half Dollar, along with the other coins in this program, are the first curved coins ever produced by the United States Mint. Chosen after a nationwide competition, the obverse (heads) glove design was inspired by a well-loved and well-used family glove. Inscriptions on the obverse are LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2014. The reverse (tails) design depicts a baseball similar to those used by Major League Baseball® Inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and HALF DOLLAR. Together, the glove and baseball designs represent the most basic elements of the game, whether played in the backyard, local ballpark, or professional leagues. The natural curves of the glove and baseball are captured in this unique dome-shaped coin.
