Up for auction is a beautiful 23" Bing Golden Blonde Mohair Antique Teddy Bear in excellent condition. This charming fellow has a very expressive face. He has wavy golden blonde mohair, glass eyes, a black stitched nose, mouth and claws, felt paw pads and he is stiffly stuffed. It sounds like he has a growler inside him but it no longer works, as is usually the case with older guys like him. He is missing small amounts of mohair in different places, but nothing excessive, typical for a bear his age.Gebruder Bing was founded in 1863 by brothers Ignaz and Adolph Bing in Nuremberg, Germany not as a teddy bear factory but as a tin manufacturing company. For a while the company made fine pewter and copper tableware and kitchen items. But in 1881 the brothers graduated to making metal toys, especially mechanized toy trains and live steam powered toys. By the early 1900's, Bing was the largest toy company in the world. They employed about 3,000 employees and had showrooms all around Europe including Berlin, London and Paris. In 1907, Bing joined the Teddy Bear market, thus setting out to challenge Steiff. Bing made their teddy bears until the company ceased operations in 1932.This wonderful classic Bing Teddy Bear would make an excellent addition to any teddy bear collection. Happy Bidding!
