An original lot of 27 World War II vintage letters including the envelopes written to Marine Lieutenant Edward Gunnigle. The following are some excerpts from some of the letters: 7 Nov 1943 Dearest Sweetheart: tis past midnight and I'll apologize for a one pager on my day off.......I met Sally & we went to the movies. We saw "Behind the Rising Sun" which was a very good and no doubt true to life. It was about a youg J_p who was graduated from Cornell as an engineer & went back to Japan to Americanize t's way of life. Of course he was drafted when war broke out and promptly reverted back to his original life. He was "kilt" in the end and even tho he was cute, I was glad. They are a cruel race and the sooner they're wiped off this earth the better off we'll be.....The other picture (2 for 1!!!) was "Gals Ive" which was a typical "B" picture. The only thing that saved it for Sally & me was that the hero was a Marine!.......June 8/16/42 Dearie Nedwood is another dreary Sunday but at last I've heard from you.....T had been a ad in the local Long Island papers saying"Girls! Come come all...to Block Party For the Men in the Service! Free Food Free Beer Free Dancing with 100 Mairnes 100 Sailors 100 Soldiers and 100 Air Corps Men!" So we went to investigate.
