Recently dug from the battlefield of Port Hudson,LA.,site of the longest siege in US Military history. This 30lb. "flat top" or "flat nose" bolt was used primarily to batter down the confederate lines. This solid bolt was most likely fired from Battery #7 towards the confederate position called Fort Desperate. The bolt was found a considerable distance behind this confederate position but lined up perfect to give the indication of it's intended target. The bolt is missing it's sabot. This is common because most of these type projectiles shed t sabots when fired or on impact. These 30LB. bolts are extremely hard to find compared to the more common 30lb Parrott shell.
