3.4 Mil Year Old Petrified Wood Covered in Druzy Quartz Petrified Forest CA3.4 million year old petrified wood from the Pliocene epoch. The trees felled by the Sonoma Volcanics were ancestral to today's Coastal Redwood ( Sequoia sempervirens ) and this specimen was found near the Petrified Forest in Calistoga, Californa. This petrified wood is extremely unique as fossils are rarely found from Pliocene rocks because of the great changes in climate and topography during that time.
