SHADE NOT INCLUDED WITH THE LAMP AUCTION The carnival midway hula gal was a treasured prize by all those attending the port side carnivals, especially the military men who were so proud to be the winner in the midway games, if in-port in Los Angeles, San Diego, SanFrancisco, Honolulu or any other CARNIVAL around the world where the 'carni' chose to take their fun and entertainment for the soldiers or other attendees. They were not necessarily made as a lamp, nor did they have a 'lamp shade' on them. Just imagine a soldier carrying this treasure back to his ship or base to plug in and enjoy during his stay, and later it was easy for someone to convert to a lamp by getting a welder to put a hole in the top and convert to a lamp. His interest was the 'HIP' action. This lack of a light bulb in no way affected the hula motion of the hips, as that was a seperate motor operation, and any fibreglass, or fringed round or oval shade in many colors could be added to the lamp to suit ones decor or taste later. Thus the shades may have been added, but did not last, as the inside easily burned if the bulb used was too large and it scorched the inside lining of the shade, or distorted it in other ways. Red was a very popular color to use on these lamps. Many replicas, reproductions are being made today, in plaster, cast, resin, ceramic, for afforability and for the memories one may have had of these days in the 1940's. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL 1940's VINTAGE LAMP weighing over 6 pounds! Very few remain in this fine condition, and many now sit in collections of the 1940's and memories of Hawaii! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Works on all 3 positions.
