Beautiful and symbolic 45 star silk flag either presented to or draped on the casket of Mrs. H. Wales Lines, "Honorary Regent" and founding charter member of the Susan Carrington Clark Chapter of the DAR in Meriden, Ct. Organized on Oct. 1,1895 the formal ceremony took place at the magnificent home of Mrs. N.L. Bradley, (Bradley & Hubbard). The new DAR chapter and charter also included as members two of Mrs. Lines proud daughter's: Mrs. Robert L. Peck as first treasurer and Mrs. Frank Hamilton, first historian. The gift of the nation's flag was a poignant part of the picture into what type of a person Mrs. Lines was......as (Sarah) led an exempliary life, the daughter of a strict but loving baptist minister, (George Washington Munger). She was born in 1838 and passed away in 1926...spending the years of her long life with a driven purpose: to serve others. Highly regarded in her time, Mrs. Lines along with her husband were devoted volunteers and often times founding members of countless state and national organizations including the DAR,SAR,DUV,GAR and the Mayflower Descendants. They dedicated their lives helping collect, protect and preserve the Colonial and Civil War history of the State of Connecticut.
