Welcome to my semi-annual Limoges Porcelain Auctions. I will be listing over 100 items throughout the month, so please check back weekly. Your satisfaction is guaranteed. 4ea- Limoges France individual oyster shooter / seashell bone dish These could be used for individual serving of oysters or bone dishes. They have a hand painted colorful scene with realistic sea shells and underwater seaweed and other vegetation. The colors are rich and warm and the detail in the artistry is superb. They are shell shaped, deep, and have a 'tab' handle, all of which leads me to believe that they could be oysters shooters. Their large size however, suggests that they are bone dishes. Either way, I am sure that you could find many utilitarian and decorative uses for them! They are signed by the artist Irelan. The outside of the pieces are also painted in green. They are in perfect condition- no chips, cracks, or restorations. Each dish is 7.5" long, 4" wide, and 2" deep and is marked H&C /L dating the piece to circa 1890 (according to Mary Gaston's Encyclopedia of Limoges, Third Edition).
