503rd PIB Veterans Scrapbook Pacific Airborne WWII503rd PIB Veterans Service Scrapbook Pacific Airborne WWIIVoluminous scrapbook from Lloyd Johnson of Lakewood, Ohio a veteran of the 503rd Parachute Infantry Brigade. Hundreds of personal photos and a chronology of his service overseas beginning October 9,1942 when the 503rd the first parachute brigade trained at Ft. Bragg embarked for the Pacific. The chronology ends September 18, 1943 after a jump near Lae, New Guinea. The pictures and documentation continue on to June 26, 1945 at Camp Oglethorpe, Georgia w he was discharged. Hundreds of photos of buddies, camp life, USO dances (jitter bug) beach parties and preparations for the re-conquest of the Pacific. T are photos of a USO show with Jack Benny and Carol Landis. Numerous pictures of Japanese KIA (some airborne) destroyed enemy aircraft and naval harbor installations and fortifications. Also a nice collection of Japanese occupation currency printed in Spanish for the occupation of the Philippines and in English for the anticipated occupation of Australia and New Guinea. Also included are a number of very moving and impressive pictures of American troops on parade/review through a major city downtown presumably in Australia or New Guinea with color guard, 105mm artillery, pack howitzers, wheeled machine guns and troops.
