50'S TIN FRICTION BK 250 AIR FORCE AIRPLANE PLANE JAPAN Description Up for auction is a vintage tin friction BK 250 Air Force airplane made in Japan. The plane is 9 3/4 inches long (23 cm.) and has a wingspan of 12 1/2 inches (32 cm.) and is in complete condition. This is an interesting airplane in that it bears a great resemblance to the very well know Superfortress airplane made by Yonezawa. (The colors and markings are almost identical but the plane is smaller and has the open windows in the cockpit.) T is no maker mark on this plane; I assume that it an earlier version made in the early 1950's? This example is in good, well played with condition. The colors are generally good but the airplane has its share of scratches, abrasions and general wear. T are a few small gaps in the two parts of the plane's fuselage due to a few broken tabs although the airplane holds together well. The friction motor works but slips sometimes. The propellers were not designed to spin; t are no springs attached to the propellers to allow them to move with the friction motor. This is a very interesting plane in good, not great condition. (I found an example of the airplane in the great Teruhisa Kitahara's Yesterday's Toys. (p172). The photo of the Pam Am airplane is taken from that book and meant only to show the resemblance between the two airplanes. read more
