A very fine still life oil painting by Ralph P Lewars, dated 1943. Paper exhibition label is on the reverse frame. The stretchered linen canvas has a grouping brushed in soft chiaroscuro, with a Modernist feel for simplified forms. The stretcher measures 35" by 22". The compo on wood frame is Victorian, circa 1870's, the original gilt finish covered in white paint, probably by the artist, some compo losses and paint peel. Frame measures 42" by 29" by 3". The painting is with the original thin varnish, no crazing, tiny paint flake upper right background.
