Up for bid is a set of 68 black and white magic lantern slides on the theme of World War I in a fine wooden, four-section carrying case. The slides are in 4.00" x 3.25" format and in excellent shape. None are broken or cracked and the binding tape shows very little fraying. The slides are numbered 1 through 75, with seven apparently missing from the original set. The subject matter of all the slides is World War I. They appear to focus on activities of U.S. forces since the American flag and soldiers playing baseball are shown in a few. The slides are not labeled and probably originally came with a script, which corresponded to the numbers.Found in the case with this slide set were two original commercial WWI slide lists:1) "European War Views" - 1 page, published by Sun Printing and Publishing Association.2) "1917/Supplementary List of New Lantern Slides of The Great War", 4 pages, published by York &Son, Lantern Slide Publishers to the Trade, York House, 3 Emperor's Gate, South Kensington, London, S.W.This two lists will be included in the case with this auction. The attractive slide box/case measures 12" L x 4.5" W x 5" H. It is constructed of finely finished fir, joined at the corners with exposed box (finger) joints, and trimmed with brass hinges, brass clasps, a brass label holder, and a convenient brass carrying handle.
