6th Dragoon Guards (The Carabiniers) Brass Badge The 6th Dragoon Guards(The Carabiniers) was a cavalry regiment in the British Army . Raised in 1685 from the Ninth Horse the regiment became known as Lord Lumley's Horse for a short time before becoming The Queen Dowager's Horse. That title lasted only until 1691 when the regiment was re-named The King's Carabiniers. In 1745, now recruiting almost entirely in Ireland, the name was changed to the Third Irish Horse but they wer still known as The Carabiniers. In 1788 they were re-designated 6th Dragoon Guards (The Carabiniers) and that name remained until 1922, amalgamation with 3rd Dragoon Guards (Prince of Wales') and re-desgnation as 3rd/6th Dragoon Guards. The badge is in excellent condition with eyelets intact
