I have had this very special 6th plate daguerreotype for quite a while and have only recently decided to sell it. When I purchased it, you could barely see through the glass, I broke what appeared to be either original or very old seals. It surprised me that t were some obvious scratches in the plate, for that matter before I even popped it out of the case I assumed it would be unsealed. My thought it that the piece was photographed by an itinerant photographer, I assume that is him standing in the doorway by the frame holding 6 6th plate daguerreotypes that show off his work. So one might say that this is a self portrait image of him with a number of his potential clients. Any how it is a great image in a half case of a very rare subject matter. The scratches are mostly on the edges of the image. I am posting it as a private auction for 2 reasons, 1) to allow the buyer to be anonymous and 2) to prevent any potential frauds from second chance offers.
