1/6th Scale Custom Hessian Grenadier, American Revolutionary War. 13' tall. This figure was almost totally built and rebuilt my me beginning with a Soldiers of the World uniform kit. Almost nothing was accurate about the original set except the uniform coat. The yellow lace was added by me on top of the transfered on yellow of the original. The vest, breeches and stock were all fine. The helmet was of cloth. I fashioned one of brass and cloth as I was lucky enough to find a copy of an archeological helmet piece owned by the Virginia Historical Society. The regiment,. the Erbprinz Regiment of Hesse-Kasel, Germany, fought as mercenaries for the British Army in America between 1776 and 1780. Photoetching was used to create the helmet plate markings as well as those for the real leather cartridge case. Great attention was given to detailing the musket and short infantry sabre, scabbard and regimental knot. Black boots with black leather knee high gaiters with silver buttons complete the figure. This figure total several weeks to complete.For uniform details I relied of Liliane and Fred Funcken's 1976 book "Arms and Uniforms, The Lace Wars, Part 2" which shows Hessian Uniforms in great detail.
