Okey, 's the whole story. I found this in a box of stuff at a garage sale. The seller insisted on breaking the seal an opening it before he would sell it to me. This was probably for the best as the can has some condition problems. Anyway, inside was a mint condition kit to make a "MOD LITE". I figured that anyone who buys it will want to display it so I went ahead an assembled it. This takes all of 2 minutes and can just as easily be taken apart. I photographed it before and after assembly. The kit comes with the inflatable shade, an inner plastic cylinder, ceiling mounting hardware, and a corded socket with a pull chain switch. Please note that while never used, the rubber cord is stiff, brittle, and split in places. This is simply due to age. For safety sake I would replace this cord. From the term "MOD" my best guess is that this piece dates from the 70s. Although it could be from the late 60s. Remember the "Mod Squad" TV show? Please note that the vinal shade is supple and in new condition. This is made from an intirely different material than the cord. The lamp measures approximately 20" in diameter and 10" in height. The Primo can container measures 9" in height and 4 1/2 " in diameter. It is a giant beer can. As shown in the photos, when lit, the lamp has a nice warm glow.This is truely a spectacular piece.
