This is an Original Noel Rockmore from 1972 Titled: Homage a' la Goulue It is a 14 X 11 Watercolor/pen on paper and NOT framed but nicely matted. It is from the Shirley Marvin Collection and it is from her SketchBook #25 - Titled: 1972 Paris Book It is the 13th page of the Sketchbook and is titled, signed and located Paris by Rockmore The catalog Number within the Shirley Marvin Collection given to this work is 72.784 This work was purchased directly from The Artist, Noel Rockmore, by Shirley Marvin and comes with a letter of authenticity. What is the story about Rockmore and Paris and the Homage a' la Goulue? Rockmore was sent to Paris in 1972 by his friend George Wein, founder of the New Orleans and Newport Jazz Festivals, who was trying to help Rockmore and promote his career. Rockmore was commissioned to do at least 25 works while he was there and to give George Wein his choice of purchasing any of the works up to 25. In exchange he got a stipend for materials and an apartment was provided in Paris for him and his girlfriend for the past three years, Riva. He and Riva had made the trip together with the knowledge at the end of their trip Riva would go on to travel and Rockmore would return to New York.
