This lot consists of 3 hand drawn maps detailing the movements and actions of units of the 82nd Airborne Division while operating in Holland in the days leading up to and through the Battle of the Bulge. 2 of the maps (measuring @ 18"x18"), which depict a graphical history of the Third Battalion of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, are identical to each other. The 3rd map (measuring @ 28"x22") is primarily an operations report for Company G of the 508th PIR, outlining their activities in narrative form from 12/19/44-1/7/45. It also lists the names of members receiving combat awards, members wounded and members KIA.Additionally, there are also photocopies of 2 wartime newspaper clippings that relate some of the same events that are described in the operations narrative. For example, on January 7th, members had come under fire from a German "88". According to the report, the enemy gun "was put out of action by PFC Jones' bazooka and PFC Kenny's machine gun." This is also reported in one of the clipping's with PFC Kenny being mentioned by name. Under combat awards, Jones is listed as receiving the Silver Star and Kenny, the Bronze Star, presumably for this action. These maps are hand drawn, in blueprint fashion, by a draftsman named Hall. They are printed, that is, they are not hand-drawn copies. I do not know the age or the origin read more
