83rd PA Infantry Civil War receipt document WIA at Malvern Hill, VA- Up for auction is a small receipt for an express package delivered to the 83rd PA Infantry on Febuary 3, 1863. The package was received by Daniel Webster Clark, Quartermaster of the 83rd PA. The receipt was signed by Sgt. James Allen who enlisted in Company I on September 15, 1861. Company I was primarily recruited in Erie, PA. Allen was wounded in action on July 1, 1862 at the Battle of Malvern Hill, VA. Allen mustered out on September 20, 1864 at the expiration of his service.The 83rd PA Infantry was commanded by Colonel Strong Vincent who was mortally wounded at Gettysburg, PA on July 2, 1863 in the fight on Little Round Top.
