hello i'm selling some of my 8th air force photo's that i have amassed over the years and in this auction we have a 10 copied photos and 7 pages from the tail gunner of a b-17 from the 385th bg of the 3rd air division, i got them about 12 years ago. this is a story of 1st lt robert w. meyer and crew who tried to go to switzerland on the 16th march 1944 but had to bail out leaving lt meyer to ditch 42-38160 into lake zug, sadly the navigator was killed when his chute didin't open. the photo's are of " lonesome polecat " after being recovered by martin "bomber" schaffner in 1952, he also recovered another b-17, a lancaster and some other aircraft too. the 1st pic has 4 photo's which include martin schaffner and crew after recovering 160, next is a crew photo of lt tommy vance crew who was on 160 the day she went down, 3 crew member was changed tommy and 2 others and meyer and 2 others replaced them. next are 2 photo of 160 just after recovery and after having a new nose put on as during the recovery the nose was damaged schaffner and some others are in this pic too. pic 2 has has the 7 pages of info given to me by s/sgt jarrell " jerry " f. legg the tail gunner on 160 and the 6 photo's show 160 after being recovered and having people looking around her sadly in 1972 160 who had been on display since 1952 was scrapped. the big schaffner read more
