Offered for auction (from a new 2013batch of about a dozen after an extended medical leave) is an improved design 90º short crossover in black for American Flyer Sgauge trains. This is not an original American Flyer crossover, nor is it a reproduction of any known Gilbert accessory. This is trademarked TM AFF. This improved design 90º short crossover is similar to the new improved full length designs at other angles I made with an electrified section in the center section. Once I was successful with the other angles, I decided to make a similar one at 90º in a half-length for greater flexibility in layouts. This crossover is intended to generally look like what Gilbert would have made in a half-length (5 in.) if it had ever done so. It is made using black resin (picture 3 ). I made it with raised ties and track guides just like the original crossover. The center “frog” is basically the same design as the Gilbert original but it has the hot rail inserted along each side. There are two additional significant differences from the original: the track is held by crimped copper wire rather than the flat steel hold-downs; and I did not drill holes for screwing or nailing to the table. You can see in the picture of the bottom (picture 2) I soldered wires between the copper wire hold-downs. This is not a precision injection molded production read more
