DESCRIPTION: This auction is for a box with a set of 90 talavera 4 by 4 inch tiles. They are decorated in a gorgeous hand painted design, the colors are incredible, but the picture does not show the real intensity of them. This tiles are hand painted with lead free paint. If you need more you can order as many as you need . MORE DESIGNS IN MY STORE . DIMENSION: Each tile measures approximately 4 1/8” by 4 1/8” and 1/3'' thick. Set is approximately 10 square feet. HISTORY: Mexico is famous for its pottery work; it has very skillful artisans who make the most beautiful pieces of ceramics in different techniques. The most prominent is Talavera from Puebla which has an influence from the Spaniards who colonized Mexico . When the City of Puebla was established in the now State of Puebla these early settlers brought with them the tradition of pottery making, with italic, Chinese and Arabian influences, this artisans came from Talavera de la Reina, province of Toledo Spain where the most renown talavera is made. There are other states like Tlaxcala , Mexico State and Guanajuato that make this kind of pottery but only the STATE OF PUEBLA CARRIES THE DENOMINATION OF ORIGIN “TALAVERA”, even though these states don’t have the certificate of origin their work is no less beautiful. This set in particular is from the state of Guanajuato. CONDITION: The tiles are in excellent condition, with no chips, but they have the usual rough surface and flaws that as with any handmade item, these slight variations and "imperfections" add to the beauty of it and make each piece unique making all the difference from machine made art.
