A pair of handwrought, hammered bronze or brass lamps probably designed for bedside or possibly desk use. American arts and crafts. Craftsman Studios. New York, NY. Circa 1915. One incised on the underside with the joiner's compass/Als Ik Kan logo; the other unsigned. Very good condition with minor scratches and abrasions; one loose seam on one shade that can be rejoined very easily; both electrical cords and plugs need replacing. Excellent, original, medium brown patina. 11 inches tall with 6 inch diameter shades and 5 inch diameter bases. The shade has a swing mechanism in the top so that it can be aimed at a book or whatever else requires lighting. These lamps are very unusual compared to most of Gustav Stickley's metalwork offerings, not only because of their more modernistic styling but also in that parts of them were cast rather than hammered from sheet metal. They've shown up on the market a few times over the years. The first time I saw one was at an auction in California in the 1970s; I believe single lamps have also appeared in Rago and Skinner auctions. This may be the only time a pair have been offered together. Paypal preferred. Shipping at cost of postage (or courier if you prefer).
