you are admiring an original wwll, aero leather clo. co. , 21996 contract, a-2. this jacket was made in 1941. this is an exceptional example of this contract, in as it is in the strongest, robust, wearable condition i have seen in an aero, in a very long time. in fact, this jacket has been my personal wearer for the last several years. i have taken a lot of pix for a reason, and that is to show just how fantastic the condition really is. real heavy horsehide. look carefully at the collar. no cracks! none! look at the shoulder decal, and you will see the leather is thick. no dry rot! no seperation! no leather goop to hide anything. take a close look at the liner and you will see a stitched in piece of liner at the collar [looks like a collar stand] this was put in long long ago, as a preventative measure, not to cover over wear. it is consistent with the rest of the liner. two interesting things about the liner, the color is a light brown, not the more common mustard color, and t are two star and wing stamps. i would surmise that the darker stamp was put in when the jacket was sent ot the usaaf depot to recieve a replacement zipper [late model talon], and a redye of the hides to the more common late war seal color. not withstanding, the original red russet color shows through in many areas, giving this jacket that prized antique patina read more
