Painted Gathering Basket This is an early hand made rectangular splint gathering basket in its original ochre paint. It has a carved bentwood handle with ears notched into its ends, and an open weave bottom to allow drainage. The paint is a rich ochre brown color, very dry. 9 1/2" x 8 1/2" x 7 1/2" tall, 12" to the top of the handle. Great, unusual shape! It is in very good condition, - the only thing I see is a break in the splint on the inside, over the handle ear (picture 8), very minor. F ound in New England. NO RESERVE!
