Folk Art Game Board on 19th Century Bread Board This game board is absolutely striking, with excellent graphic appeal - orange and turquoise checker board with a turquoise band at one end, stenciled with small orange flowers. The paint is original and un-retouched, with good, appropriate wear, probably dating from 1900-1949. The really interesting part is that the board is a 19th century single plank with bread board ends and a hole for hanging on one of the ends. Home made checker boards were often painted on old pieces of wood - the trick was finding a nice flat one. This board, having been used in the kitchen as a bread board or cutting board is very flat. The board was well used, with some wood loss at one side near the end (picture 8). The bread board ends are attached with square nails and are slightly wider than the board due to natural age shrinkage. 21 3/4" x 16". There is appropriate paint wear, a minor knot hole (picture 3) showing through on the turquoise band, and some orange showing through on the right side (picture 3) where there might have been a label or something that lifted the paint - not recently. Solid and tight. Very appealing, nice early board, NO RESERVE! This comes with a full money back guarantee. You will pay only the exact cost of shipping and insurance.
