Aaron Bohrod, "Every Man" oil on board, 1960. Signed lower left, "Aaron Bohrod". Board: 24"H x 32"W; Frame: 35.25"H x 43"W. PROVENANCE:Dr. and Mrs. Louis H. Barnett, Fort Worth, Texas.Thence by descent to present owner.LITERATURE:Milwaukee Art Museum, "Leaders in Wisconsin art, 1936-1981: John Steuart Curry, Aaron Bohrod, John Wilde," April 4 - May 23, 1982, p. 34 (illustrated).Aaron Bohrod (American, 1907-1992) was a master of still life painting, best known for his use of tromp l'oeil, as we see demonstrated here in "Every Man". This illusory work convincingly incorporates elements of a work by Daumier with two other portrait reproductions, adorned with various personal accoutrements casting realistic shadows, all affixed to a decorative wooden panel with peeling paint.
