Abraham Lincoln: Classic Currier & Ives Cartoon. Currier & Ives published this medium folio cartoon [17.25" x 11" sight] in 1860. Titled "Progressive Democracy - Prospect of a Smash Up", it depicts the schism in the Democratic Party. A carriage being driven by a Tammany brave ("A Squatter Sovereign") and President Buchanan ("Old Buck") is stuck on the railroad tracks, since the two sets of Democratic horses, Douglas & Johnson and Breckinridge & Lane, are pulling in opposite directions. Lincoln and Hamlin are riding the "Equal Rights" train and are ringing the bell as a warning to the stranded Democrats. This is one of the better efforts by Currier & Ives, as it contains three sets of jugate portraits, as well as train and Indian imagery. Double-matted and framed, not examined out of frame. The condition is excellent. One of the best in the series. HID03201242017 Grade: 0, Service: Other, Service No.: 0
