London An original hand-colored engraved plate from Ackermann's Repository of Arts , one of the premier publications of the high Regency period. Rudolph Ackermann (1764-1834), originally a publisher and inventor, set up a print shop and drawing school on the Strand in London in 1795. Here he started publishing his monthly Repository of Arts which became so popular. He started publishing them in 1809 through 1829, publishing 40 volumes in total. The fashion plates were among the most beautiful fashion plates of the time.
