Acre Sword - 3rd Crusade - Carbon Steel - Battle Ready Description: Although the Third Crusade could be considered a draw, it did win back the right of the pilgrims to visit Jerusalem. The key to this success was the fall of Acre, when Richard Lion Heart pressed the attack so strongly that the garrison surrendered. We have named this sword in honor of that battle. Based on a sword from a funeral brass of a knight from the period, this simple design is an excellent example of the Knightly Cruciform Sword that evolved from the Viking sword. At this time, plate armor was still in the future, and cloth gambesons and mail were the principle forms of defense. Since most fighting was done on horseback, the cut was most important. The blade was made with very little taper in order to give more force to the blow. Pommel is brass with a cross in nickel silver attached. Crossguard is brass. Grip is wood covered with leather. Comes with scabbard. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts. Overall length - 40¼" Blade - 33" long, 17/8" wide Wt. 3 lbs. 3 oz. This sword has been discontinued and we only have 1 left.
