8.5x11" typed contract is dated Dec. 7, 1944 and is between Republic Productions, Inc. and Erich Von Stroheim (1885-1957), an Austrian-American director, actor and producer, most notable as being a film star of the silent era, subsequently noted as an auteur for his directorial work. Contract notes Republic's lending of $5,000 to Von Stroheim, to be paid back "Within One Week From The Starting Date Of The Photoplay Referred To In That Certain Contract Between Us Dated February 1, 1944." Von Stroheim has boldly signed in black ink at lower left. Slight pull to two punched holes at top, o/w Exc. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA COA.
