Ada Lum original Chinese pair of dolls 26" Mei mei and husband all originalDescriptionThe Doll Hugs Shop PresentsHere is a large pair of vintage Ada Lum dolls. These cloth dolls are all original and stand 26" tall! They are a matching pair including their outfits and wear super cute embroidered shoes. They do have light staining particularly on their faces. The dolls were made in the 1940's and remain in good overall condition. The clothing particularly the pants have faded from age. The clothes are tagged Ada Lum Shanghai so date to her early years before escaping to Hong Kong. We believe the girl is Mei Mei but do not know her mates name. Very nice old cloth dolls that were popular with Americans in the 1950's. Mei Mei does not have ears under her hair.Ada Lum began designing and making dolls in Shanghai in the 1940s. She began making dolls for friends but as demand grew she started a business of doll making. In 1949 Communist invasion of Shanghai led to Ada Lum and her family fleeing to Hong Kong, where she continued her business and employed many Chinese refugees. At first she worked out of her home, but by 1962 she had a shop in the Mandarin Hotel.
