Bamileke Pipe from the Grasslands of CameroonMaterial: WoodEstimated Age: 30 plus yearsMeasurements: 27-3/4" high x 4-3/4" wide x 5-1/4" deepCondition: Beautiful work of art with the normal wear. A natural split and chip on the back.International Buyers: I refund shipping overage minus insurance if your shipping destination is less than the flat rate indicated.Carved from one solid piece of wood by the Bamileke Tribe. On the front is a Buffalo the rest are lizards. All figural and raised. The interior of the pipe is lined with metal.Art objects were symbols of position in the hierarchy; their number, the materials from which they were made, and their iconography changed progressively as one descended or ascended the social ladder. In the fon's palace, next to the ancestral figures and the masks, one would also find headdresses, beaded thrones, bracelets, necklaces, pipes, leopard skins, elephant tusks, swords, commanders' sticks, fans, dishware, horns, and terracotta bowls.
