Rare Vintage Tribal African Mask with Elephant perched on top of spiritual Sheeps Horns and Mask. Stored by Seller and Container Shipped from the Ivory Coast in year 2005. Origin: Bassam Village, Ivory Coast. Ceremonial Elephant Mask Description Width 6" Depth 5 " Height 13 1/2 " Weight: 1 Pound Defects: Back of Elephants neck, looks like clean break years ago, from wood curing during carving of the work. repaired by the artist. Crack not at all obvious to artwork. No other defects found by seller, piece in very good condition. Original Texture / Seller has only wiped off dust from storage, piece never used or displayed by this seller. Carving is from a softer wood, however the weight of this carving is in comparison to other masks and wall mounts Elephant on top of mask must mean good luck for this folk art? Art work, features, and colorful artwork mask assumed to be that of the Guru Tribe of Ivory Coast. Most unusual artwork, as a rule Masks have a "Bird" perched on top of a mask. Intricately carved, well detailed with faded paint coloring's, and soiled conditions, illustrating a "vintage" age appearance.
