Image of a small herd of elephants painted in Tea and Ochre. This is a reproduction of a painting in the unique style of art by acclaimed wildlife artist Simon Stevenson who has perfectly captured the very essence of his subject. His outstanding draftsmanship and instinctive flair for composition combine to create images, which are both atmospheric and intimate. Working in the highly unusual medium of a mixture of TEA and ground OCHRE pigment, Simon lays down a light wash then gradually builds in the detail by adding layer upon layer of ochre paste to achieve a warm effect which pulses with the light, heat and dust of an African landscape, which is his spiritual home. Ochre is an earth pigment found in many parts of Africa and is often used by tribes for facial and body paint and has been for many thousands of years used in rock art and cave paintings. Although he now lives and paints these much sought after images in Shropshire, Simon was born in Tanzania, East Africa, where he spent his formative years surrounded by the natural beauty and wildlife of this fragile and diminishing Eden. His unique style of art has captured the colour, mood and shimmering beauty of that most extraordinary of continents which is Africa. This Artist Sketch has dimensions of 7" X 9" is mounted and embossed by the artist's studio. For further images log read more
