This item is an authentic airline passenger life preserver. This vest is the type that is stored under the seats on a passenger aircraft for use in emergencies. You have likely seen a vest such as this in a safety demonstration on board commercial jetliners. I have several different styles available, all are basically similar to this one. Some come in the color red (to identify crew members I believe). These vests are made of what feels like a plastic fabric. The material seems substantial and relatively durable. On this particular vest, cartoon pictorials show the proper method of donning and adjusting the vest. The manufacturers label says "Switlik Parachute Company. Inc." "Life Preserver Model AV-35 (H)" "FAA-TSO-C13f" "Use only cylinders filled with 16 grams CO" The vest comes with two toggles. Pulling the toggles pierces the two CO2 cartridges (not included) and inflates the two inflation chambers on the vest. The life vest also features an oral inflation tube. If the CO2 cylinders don't fire, or if your vest develops a leak and you must keep inflating it, the oral inflation tube comes in very handy. These vests were purchased as salvage from the airlines (I have the receipt). They were not stolen from an aircraft (a very serious crime).
