AKAI GX-4000D 4 track tape recorder with the famous Glass Xtal Ferrite Heads. Tested in both play and record modes and its fully working and sounds great. Now for the issues. It is missing the 7 1/2 ips bushing so it currently only plays and records at 3 3/4 ips. A removeable bushing on the capstan shaft is how the speed is changed on these machines. If you need to record or playback at 7 1/2 ips new 7 1/2 ips bushings seem to be available online for $30-40 and original ones may come up now and again on ebay for less. The front panel has some scratches and the vinyl covered wood sides have some chips and lifting. The rubber pinch roller has a few dents on the edge but it does not effect the record or playback and should be easy to replace if you feel its necessary. So other than some really cosmetic issues it a really nice sounding machine that is fully functional, sonically and mechanically. These Akai's seem to just need a cleaning and de-mag of the heads and they work great. Although
