The St. Louis Cardinals were matched up against the Boston Red Sox in the series and in Game 7, Enos Slaughters lead off home run in the second inner off Tex Hughson put the Cardinals up 1-0 ... Schoendienst, who reached first base on a walk, scored on a Harry Walker hit to center field. Schoendienst never hesitated to score from first catching Johnny Pesky unaware of his intentions when Pesky fielded the relay. His slight hesitation to throw home allowed Red to score and the Cardinals would take the Series. The play would forever be known as “The Mad Dash”. Umpiring that day at home plate was Hall of Fame umpire Al Barlick. Offered is a black-and-white photo picturing Red sliding into home plate signed by both Barlick and Slaughter in blue sharpie.
