Alaskan Eskimo Grass Coil Basket in excellent condition. Still has the original tag that stated that the basket is 'Certified Authentic' from ANAC. Along the shores of the Bering Sea grows a tough but pliable beach grass. In late summer the grasses are carefully sellected, cured and bleached. Patterns are worked into the basketry by using dyed grass. For color, willow and alder bark and berries are used. This basket is from a collection that I inherited. The collection was started in 1940. I believe that this basket was purchased between 1950-1970. The colors on the basket are red, green/gray and a lovely tan/gold hue. T is some minor fading from age. It is very well constructed, a great display piece for any collection. The basket measures 10 5/8" diameter at the top, 8" diameter at the bottom and is 9 3/4" tall.
